ASG Eye Hospitals
ASG Eye Hospitals is a well known name in Hindi Heartland belt of India.
THE ASG STORY: Started as a small eye hospital in Jodhpur with a very small borrowed capital by doctor duo friends Dr Arun Singhvi and Dr Shashank Gang, who superspecialized from most premier eye institute of India, All India Institute Of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
The name ASG comes from initials of their respective names (AS+SG).
Post their studies at AIIMS, the duo were faced with the dilemma of whether to accept employment opportunities from leading hospitals, move to another city overseas chasing big dollars, or return to their hometown Jodhpur.
Jodhpur is a town in Rajasthan known for its grand Mehrangarh Fort, Umed Bhawan Palace and other structures of historical value. Not as much for good healthcare services though. People of Jodhpur did not have access to quality healthcare, particularly in ophthalmology. In fact, they had to travel to Delhi or Ahmadabad or other cities for complex treatment.
The two doctors decided to start from this city in Dec 2005.
The small hospital became a super specialty hospital today; known across the western region of India for its medical excellence and referred for most complicated eye disorders. With around 700,000 lives touched, and over 100,000 procedures performed, ASG today has spread in 16 cities with 23 super specialty hospitals across the country.
TRUSTED BY PATIENTS, SUPPORTED BY FRATERNITY, AND RIGHTLY BACKED BY INVESTORS.
Emboldened by the success of their hospitals, they decided to expand further and started looking for an investor. The search ended at Sequoia Capital in the year 2012, among the largest venture capital firms globally with interest in technology and healthcare startups.
Soon the Jodhpur boys were making newspaper headlines when Sequoia took a minority stake in company. Armed with funds, the money was used for immediate expansion in newer cities and opening new eye hospitals.
In a short span of approximately 18 months, ASG came up with 15 new hospitals, entering into 12 new cities, and expanding its operations now to 7 states across India.
Investing rightly in technology, ASG has most advanced Alcon Wave light Q-LASIK (refractive laser corneal surgery) machines for removal of spectacles that are positioned at 9 strategic hospital locations.
ASG is amongst the fastest growing healthcare companies in India, and is constantly expanding. ASG’s most recent hospital came up in Guwahati in Northeast India.
